Charles was born and raised in New York City and graduated from Saint Francis Prep. In college, he attended School of Visual Arts where he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Film Production. His SVA thesis film WAITING IN THE WINGS received numerous awards including the Directors Guild of America Student Award and the Student Academy Award Silver Medal for Drama from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. He went on to shadow feature film director Joel Schumacher and television director Henry Chang. He began his career building a database for producer David L. Wolper at Warner Bros where he learned the history of television and the responsibilities of a producer. He also worked as an assistant to a literary agent at Gersh Agency and moved on to Fox Family Channel as the assistant to the Director of Development and Acquisitions. After working as an assistant in the industry, Charles was hired by the University of Southern California as curator to the David L. Wolper Center in charge of web and database management. While at USC, he worked on his Masters of Fine Arts Degree at the prestigious School of Cinematic Arts. As producer and director, his films have been recognized in film festivals all over the world. He recently completed his MFA graduate USC Thesis producing and directing MOONROCK & LIGHTER FLUID starring Austyn Myers (MEET DAVE). A DAY'S WORK, directed by Rajeev Dassani, produced by Charles won the Gold Medal in the Narrative Category at the Student Academy Awards in 2008.
